The annual Chicago Marathon will take off tomorrow morning, Sunday, October 9th and Sergio and Banks is excited to announce that one of our agents, Stephanie Willms, will be racing in the event. If you happen to see Stephanie run past your Chicago home, be sure to cheer her on! The race will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Were you aware that the Chicago Marathon started in 1977 with more than 4,000 runners and cost of registration was only $5! From those humble beginnings, the marathon has attracted participants from every athletic level because of its fast and flat course. Elite athletes and amateurs alike have raced with anticipation to generate personal, national and world records. Today, the world-class marathon attracts runners from all 50 states and more than 100 countries, along with plenty of racers who live in Chicago and has a cap of 45,000 participants.
Though the 26.2 mile course is notably one of the world’s flattest surfaces, the October weather has historically been less reliable, ranging from temperatures in the 30’s to the 80’s. Tomorrow’s weather should be a beautiful day to enjoy this annual tradition as weather is predicted to have temperatures in the low 80s. The start and finish line is in Grant Park on Columbus Drive near Buckingham Fountain, with the course running through some of Chicago’s most popular neighborhoods, including Lincoln Park and Little Italy.
Runners enjoy the support of all the people who come out to line the streets, cheering them on and spraying them with water to cool them off and keep them hydrated. Afterwards, the 27th Mile Post-Race Party will be held in Grant Park’s Butler Field, and will include live entertainment, and food and beverages can be purchased, too.
