The Hyde Park Art Center invites families to unlock their creativity and enjoy free open studios for art-making activities every second Sunday of the month. “Second Sundays” workshops take place throughout the academic year, offering free, drop-in, hands-on art-making workshops for kids and families, providing an interactive experience that engages visitors of all ages in contemporary art, while also offering participants personal insight into the Art Center’s exhibits.
On Sunday, May 11, visitors can drop in to experience The Plug-In Studio’s ArtMakerSpace: “Pop Up, Drop In, Make Art.” Join artists from The Plug-In Studio for this pop-up, drop-in art and technology workshop. Use electronic components and found materials to make interactive artworks that move, make sound, and light up. No pre-registration necessary.
Also on May 11, Elke Claus will help your child to design and hand print your own Mother’s Day Card. After sketching a design, it will be easily carved into a styrofoam block. The block will be inked so the design can be transferred to a sheet of color paper. This will then be glued to the cover of blank, folded cardstock to create colorful, one-of-kind cards for Mom.
Second Sunday hours are 1 – 4 p.m. The Hyde Park Art Center is located at 5020 S. Cornell Avenue.
