Uptown, located on Chicago’s north side neighborhood, between Foster and Irving Park, and Lake Michigan and Clark, is a culturally diverse community brimming with activity. Historic, ornately detailed renovated hotels and mansions combine with single-family homes, flats and apartments to create a unique blending of culture and time.
Broadway and Uptown Square are the center of history, culture, and commerce in Uptown. Uptown Square listed is on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Long-known as Chicago’s entertainment district, Uptown has welcomed everything from jazz and big bands to rock ‘n’ roll and comedy clubs. Charlie Chaplin and Gloria Swanson produced films at Uptown’s Essanay Studios, located at Andersonville Terrace. The Aragon Ballroom, Riviera Theater, Uptown Theatre, Green Mill Jazz Club, and Graceland Cemetery are all located in Uptown. Along with all the indoor entertainment, Uptown also connects to Lincoln Park and Montrose Beach and Harbor, allowing for easy access to outdoor activities.Read More ▾
Public & Private Institutions Of Learning
Education is provided by public, private and home schools. State governments set overall educational standards, often mandate standardized tests for K–12 public school systems and supervise, usually through a board of regents, state colleges, and universities. Funding comes from the state, local, and federal government. Private schools are generally free to determine their own curriculum and staffing policies, with voluntary accreditation available through independent regional accreditation authorities, although some state regulation can apply.
