Portage Park

Portage Park, is known for Six Corners, the once famous shopping center where Cicero and Milwaukee Avenues meet Irving Park Road. However, Portage Park has much more to offer as a stable, charming neighborhood with large bungalows, two-flats, Victorian and American Four Square homes, and a gorgeous grass and garden rich community park. An Olympic-size pool where gold medalist Mark Spitz set world records is open to the public, as well as a boxing ring, sports fields and cultural center.

The Portage Theatre, used for performing arts, silent and independent films, myriad dining options, and a full-fledged costume shop, called Fantasy Costumes, help in defining the eclectic feel of this neighborhood. Beautiful architecture can be seen I the spires, steeples and towers of many of the churches in Portage Park. Home to the largest Polish community in Chicago and the Polish American Association, the Polish Jesuit Millennium Center, and the Polish Army Veterans and Chopin Park, named after Poland’s famous pianist, Portage Park remains close to its roots.
