The 57th Street Art Fair is a two-day outdoor celebration of the visual arts held in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, adjacent to the University of Chicago campus and the home of President Barack Obama. Once again as artists and art lovers reunite at Chicago’s oldest juried art fair in the Midwest, the fair typically features the work of 200-250 exhibitors. Most are returning artists, but each year between 50 and 75 new exhibitors are invited to participate by a jury made up of collectors, critics, curators and artists.
Five student artists were chosen this year to show their work at the fair. Getting started in the professional art world can be a tricky and expensive undertaking for a young artist. Students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Academy of Art College, Columbia College and the University of Chicago were invited to submit work and go through the rigorous jury process to vie for the honor of being Young Artists on display at the 57th Street Art Fair. The five artists selected represent the finest talented college age students in the Chicago Area. The 57th Street Art Fair is proud to provide free tent/display space and a cash stipend to these young artists.
This family-friendly event features hands-on activities and playgrounds for the kids and a wide variety of food. You can also participate in the popular Art Buying Boot Camp, a guided tour through the fair with art-buying experts who can help you with everything from determining the best price for a piece to the best colors to match your living room.
The goal of the 57th Street Art Fair is to provide a venue for creators of quality fine art and fine craft to meet with the art-buying public. Whether you are looking for glass, jewelry, leather, photography, printmaking, painting, sculpture, wood, ceramics or fiber — you are sure to find something special at this one of a kind event.
The 57th Street Art Fair is an Illinois Not For Profit Corporation and all proceeds are used to produce the annual Fair. The 57th Street Art Fair is organized and operated by volunteers.
