The Music Box Theatre, located at 3733 N. Southport Avenue in Lakeview, will be presenting a special screening of “Race to Nowhere” directed by Vicki Abeles, on Saturday, January 22nd, at 11:30 a.m.
Concerned homeowners and parents from neighborhood schools, including Blaine Elementary and Audobon Elementary, can show their support for today’s youth by attending this Blaine PTA fundraiser. Tickets to this event are $10. “Race to Nowhere” is a call to action for families, educators, and policy makers to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare America’s youth so they can become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens.
This eighty-five minute documentary showcases a concerned mother turned filmmaker as she aims her camera and the high-stakes, high-pressure culture she discovers in our schools and homes. Cheating, disengagement, stress and depression, and preparation concerns will all be examined. “Race to Nowhere” received the 2010 Audience Award at the Alexandria Film Festival and was selected for the 2009 Film festivals at Mill Valley, Buffalo, and Sonoma.
