Norwood Park, named after Henry Ward Beecher’s novel Norwood, or Village Life in New England (1868), it is located northwest of Chicago, between Gunnison Street and Devon Avenue and Cumberland and Caldwell Woods. Historically Irish and Italian, Norwood Park is known for its greenery – in lawns, parks, churchyards, and abundant trees.
Since 1922, Norwood Park has hosted a neighborhood Memorial Day Parade and the community is very centered on family life. Block parties and community events like Dinner with Santa, local shopping, and of course Norwood Park itself, offer residents many entertainment options. The expansive 14-acre Norwood Park enjoys and outdoor swimming pool complete with a water slide, making it a favorite destination for young neighborhood swimmers. The park also offers youth programs, from flag football, floor hockey, and tumbling, to acting, piano, and ballet. Boasting a state-of-the-art fitness center, and 1/5-mile oval, gravel running track with lights, along with a baseball field and four tennis courts, Norwood Park has it all.
