Chicago International Movies & Music Festival

The Chicago International Movies & Music Festival is an annual four-day showcase, now in its sixth year, celebrates the connection between music and movies. You’ll have the chance to see international film premieres, live concerts, DJ/VJ sets, Q&A’s, live score performances, exhibits and more. All CIMMFest events will take place in numerous venues centered around our city’s West Loop, Wicker Park, Bucktown and Logan Square neighborhoods.

Movie Highlights

  • Battleship Potemkin – featuring Chicago rock vets Scott Lucas (Local H), Jimmy Chamberlin (The Smashing Pumpkins) and Matt Ulery (Loom) come together under the name Mary Shelley to collaborate on a live scoring event for this silent Russian cinema classic
  • World Premiere of the feature We Grew Up Herestarring members of Chicago band Paper Thick Walls
  • Johnny Thunders documentary Looking for Johnny
  • Opening night feature is the tearjerker Butterfly Girlwith filmmaker Cary Bell in attendance

International Film Highlights

  • U.S. Premiere of the animated Indian feature The World of Goopi and Bagha, based on a film by Satyajit Ray
  • Documentary Led Zeppelin Played Here, about a legendary 1969 concert in a high school gym
  • Chicago Premiere of the Serbia-set documentaryBrasslands, about the world’s largest trumpet competition, directed by a team of 10 ethnomusicologists
